5 Ingenious and Inspiring Diy Coffee Table Ideas
A coffee table serves the most basic requirements when it comes to types of furniture in the living room. A coffee table can be a great addition to the existing furniture in the room and can be more useful if built with storage capacity. While there are many furniture items which make you dig deep into your pockets to decorate the living room, you can save some money by trying these simple yet artsy DIY coffee table ideas over the weekend!
DIY Coffee Table with wheels and storage
Supplies Needed:
- 4 wood crates
- 1 Piece heavy duty plywood
- 1 Can of Wood Stain
- 1 Paintbrush or foam for stain
- 4 caster wheels with locks
- 24 5/8″ wood screws
- Sandpaper (for rough edges)
- 4 small L shaped brackets
Method:
Start off with sanding the crates on the rough edges.
Now, paint or stain the crates and the top of the plywood with the help of paintbrush or foam. Keep them aside and let the paint dry (two coats would be enough to go with).
Once the paint is dry, screw the caster wheels to the bottom of your plywood.
Now screw the crates together, making a square shape as per the plywood and screw all the crates on the plywood too.
Cut a piece of plywood as per space in between the crates and paint it as well. While the piece of plywood is drying screw the L shaped bracket to fit in the plywood.
Distressed Coffee Table with Storage
Supplies Needed:
- 5 Panel Door
- Foam Brush
- Wood Screws, both half-inch and one and a quarter inch
- 2 Support Brackets
- Set of 4 wheel Casters
- Wood Glue
- Brush on polyurethane
- Drill with various bits
- Pocket joint screws
- 6 3-inch wood boards
- Circular Saw
Method:
Start by cutting off the door into 3 pieces (3 panels for tabletop and 1 for each side) with the help of the circular saw.
Attach the side panels to the top with screws, wood glue, and support bracket 2 for each side.
Now, for the bottom of the table attach the 6 wooden boards to the sides of the table with screws.
Attach the wheel caster at the bottom at each corner of the table.
Once the table is all assembled, start sanding the rough edges of the table and coat it with brush-on-polyurethane and let it dry.
Once dried, coat the table again for a durable finish.
Rustic Wheeled DIY Coffee Table
Supplies Needed:
- Set of 4 casters
- 2×6 whiteboards cut to 4 feet long
- A piece of 3′ x 4′ plywood
- White Paint or stain (of your choice)
- 2.5″ screws
Method:
Paint the whiteboards with a wood stain or white paint as per your living rooms color scheme.
Once the stain is dried, attach the plywood to the bottom using 2.5″ screws and then, attack the casters at the four corners of the plywood.
Note, if you want to add more height to the table using four wooden blocks and attach it to the casters and the bottom plywood.
Tile Top DIY Coffee Table
Supplies Needed:
- 12”x24” Floor and wall tile
- Four 2” x 36” balusters for legs
- 2″ Screws
- Circular saw
- Drill Machine
- Glue gun or wood glue
- Sandpaper
Method:
Start with chopping four 2” x 36” balusters into 10 pieces- two at 23⅝” (the length of the tile) and 8 pieces at 11⅝” (the width of the tile) with the help of the circular saw.
Arrange the wood pieces and screw them together to make the base and legs of the table.
Once the balusters legs are assembled place the tile on top and attach it to the legs with a glue gun to give it more stability.
Sand the rough edges of the legs. You can stain or paint the legs to match it with the color scheme of your living room.
Suitcase DIY Coffee Table
Supplies Needed:
- 1 Vintage suitcase- (20″ x 30″ x 10″) approximately
- 1 piece of 3/4″ plywood
- Set of four 8″ hairpin legs
- 3/4” coarse thread screws
- Table saw
- Circular saw
- Drill
Method:
Measure the inside of the suitcase and using a table saw cut a 3/4” piece of plywood 1/8” undersized.
Now, test fit the plywood into the base of the suitcase and remove the interior attachments (if any) of the suitcase to make the plywood sit flat inside the suitcase.
Attach the hairpin legs using the 3/4” coarse thread screws to the bottom of the suitcase DIY coffee table.
