6 must-watch movies of 2021 so far
So far, 2021 has proven to be a creatively good year for the film industry. No doubt, the closure of movie theaters put a damper on our movie experience last year. But we have found an alternative: OTT platforms. The audiences are immensely excited about all the new releases lined up. But, in the meantime, let’s take a look at the six best blockbuster movies already released in 2021.
To All The Boys:
After the incredible success of the first two installments, it’s not surprising that the third film of the To All The Boys trilogy would be just as fun. The story follows Lara Jean and Peter as they navigate through the final months of their high school life and try to figure out a way to continue their relationship through college and beyond. While fans were sad to see the story end, it was still heartening to watch the adorable Peter Kavinsky and Lara Jean Covey one more time on screen together. If you haven’t watched the movie yet, you can binge-watch the entire trilogy on Netflix right now!
Judas and the Black Messiah
Based on a true story, this historical drama stars Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield, Jesse Plemons, and Dominique Fishback and tells the story of the murder of Black Panther chairman Fred Hampton. The film is a radical step taken during the current “Black Lives Matter” movement active across the country. This film was directed by Shaka King and can be streamed on HBO Max. It has received six nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards, so you don’t want to skip this one!
Night of the Kings
Directed by Philippe Lacôte, Night of the Kings is a film that features dramatic themes of crime, war, power, and survival. It tells the story of an Ivory Coast prison called MACA, known for regular incidents of violence and upheaval. One red moon night, the kingpin, Blackbeard, demands the new arrival, “Roman,” to tell a story to get through the darkness. The film features Bakary Koné, Issaka Sawadogo, and Steve Tientcheu.
The White Tiger
Featuring talented actors like Adarsh Gaurav, Rajkumar Rao, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the lead roles, The White Tiger is a film based on Aravind Adiga’s novel of the same name. It tells the story of a driver working for a wealthy family that suppresses his talents and exploits him for their own advantage. The film is nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay in the 93rd Academy Awards.
Moxie
Moxie is an American comedy-drama film based on a 2015 novel of the same name by Jennifer Mathieu. The film is directed by Amy Poehler and follows a group of young girls revolting against their school’s sexist practices. The revolution is kicked off after a stack of magazines highlighting the school’s misogyny and double standards are left in the ladies’ lavatory by an anonymous person. Featuring heavy themes such as bullying, sexism, and harassment, this film is power-packed with excitement and is a must-watch of 2021.
Supernova
Telling a compelling story of love, family, and loss, Supernova is an incredible movie for more reasons than just the phenomenal casting. Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci, two incredibly talented actors, come together in this film and are taken on a bittersweet journey as partners where one may lose the other to dementia. The movie does a remarkable job of their love for each other and a connection that seems too strong to be severed by disease or distance.
