Foods you should avoid when suffering from for psoriasis

Keeping track of daily meals is important when dealing with inflammatory conditions like psoriasis. This autoimmune disease can cause a variety of issues in different parts of the body. It can also flare up when exposed to irritants or allergens, including those found in certain foods.

Dairy and red meats
Both these types of foods, including eggs, contain a compound known as arachidonic acid, which is a polyunsaturated fatty acid.

Foods you should avoid when suffering from for psoriasis
Some research stated how the resultant products of arachidonic acid are responsible for the occurrence of psoriatic lesions.

  • Beef
  • Any form of processed meats, such as sausages, bacon, etc.
  • Egg or food that contains eggs

Gluten
Celiac disease occurs when protein in the form of gluten affects one’s health. Those diagnosed with psoriasis have proven to have a higher number of markers for sensitivity towards gluten. Consequently, if you are sensitive to gluten or have psoriasis, the first course of action is to cut out any form of food that contains gluten. This includes the following:

  • Wheat or wheat derivatives
  • Barley, malt, or rye
  • Noodles, pasta, or baked goods
  • Processed foods with gluten
  • Sauces or condiments that contain gluten
  • Malt and beverages like beer

Processed foods
A diet that mainly consists of processed foods leads to a high-calorie intake, which, in turn, leads to conditions such as obesity, metallic syndrome, or other forms of chronic health conditions. Some of these conditions end up causing even chronic inflammation in the body, which is known to be associated with psoriasis flare-ups as well. Some of the foods you most definitely need to avoid are processed meats, food products that are prepackaged, fruits and vegetables that are canned, or foods that contain high salt, sugar, or fat ratios.

Nightshades
A commonly reported trigger for psoriasis flare-ups are nightshades. These foods contain a compound known as solanine. This disrupts the digestion process and leads to inflammation in the body. Some of the most common nightshades to avoid are tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, and peppers.

Alcohol
This is one of the most disruptive foods for psoriasis and is a definite no-no in any form of diet, especially when you have psoriasis.
