Get to know the new Beetle car
Before getting into the main features of the new Beetle, let’s learn a little about the fascinating history of this car.
Adolf Hitler wanted a people’s car which would carry two adults and three children at an acceptable speed on the main roads of Germany. He specified that it should be possible to replace its parts easily. In 1934, he ordered Ferdinand Porsche to come up with such a vehicle.
After the war, the commercial production started in the year 1945, and the model was sold under the name Volkswagen. Later, it grew in popularity as ‘Kafer’ (which means beetle in Germany), and its design became iconic. Between 1950 and 1979 it was widely imported into the country.
The car has a quirky and retro design, and it is a pleasure to drive as well. Many surveys place the new 2018 Beetle at 5th position in convertibles, 31st in small cars and 10th in the subcompacts car section. It has a new 2.0-liter 174 hp, four-cylinder turbocharged peppy engine. The cabin has a handsome design and the internal features are user-friendly. It delivers a smooth driving experience. Additionally, the new Beetle car comes with a six-year guarantee. The coast rim has a sunroof, heated front seats, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert as well as a 6.3-inch touchscreen. It takes 7.2 seconds to reach 60mph from a standstill. Users can pass a quarter mile in 15.6 seconds at 91 mph.
The main competitors of the new Beetle car are the MINI Cooper and Fiat 500. The Beetle is significantly larger than the other two vehicles. Its bigger size means more room for all passengers. It has substantial space in the rear seats as well which makes it more comfortable than the other two vehicles that are the Beetle’s competitors. Besides, the 15 cubic feet cargo space is larger than the industry standard. Overall, this is an excellent car for a small family. It is also suited to daily commute within the city as well as the occasional weekend outings.
