Home remedies for common stomach disorders
Common stomach disorders such as diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, bloating, irritable bowel and so on are caused when your digestive system starts working up. This usually happens when your stomach is unable to handle the food you have ingested. Certain food products that are high in lactic acid, sugar, and saturated fats are quite hard to break down. Sometimes, the digestive system is unable to handle the processing of this food and causes stomach disorders.
Avoiding food that causes trouble for the stomach works well as a good preventive measure. However, it is not always easy to stay away from food that has the potential to cause stomach disorders. Sometimes, we are not aware that the food we eat might lead to problems later in the day. In such cases, you can use the following home remedies for relief. If your problems persist, consult a doctor immediately.
For diarrhea: For the first 24 hours, have clear liquids such as soup. Replenish your body with electrolytes. Avoid dairy products including milk, greasy food, and food which is high in fiber. Gradually add bland food to your diet. This can include bananas, toast, and rice.
For constipation: Lemon is a natural remedy that helps to ease your bowel movement. Have a glass of warm water with lemon on empty stomach every morning. Increase your intake of fiber-rich food such as prunes and raisins. Consume nuts, avocados, and food cooked in olive oil to relieve constipation.
For heartburn: Mix unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar with water and have it every 5 minutes until you feel relieved. Sipping on chamomile tea or ginger root tea also helps in curing heartburn. Warm and lemon not only gives you relief from constipation but also cures heartburn.
For colitis: Avoid eating bread, noodles, pasta and so on that are based on whole grain flour. And also, whole grains and nuts are to be avoided. Increase your intake of well-cooked white rice. It is best to avoid everything that is high in fiber during colitis flare-ups. Have soft-tender meats, fish, eggs, pureed vegetable soups, vegetables cooked without skins sand seeds and food cooked in olive oil or coconut oil.
For irritable bowel syndrome: Avoid coffee, dairy products, and raw fruits. Increase your intake of probiotic food such as yogurt. Dried peppermint or peppermint oil with warm water helps in relieving symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Also, crushed fennel seeds with boiling water or a teaspoon of dried fennel seeds is helpful.
