Lunch recipes that your toddlers will love
It can be a task to prepare something for toddlers that they will finish eating while they are in daycare. Here are a couple of lunch ideas that you can consider preparing for toddlers.
Spread hummus between slices of bread (use multigrain bread if you wish). It is a simplest form of lunch idea which has minimal ingredients and takes very less time to prepare. If your kid frowns at the taste of hummus, use peanut butter instead and jam on the either sides of each bread.
Mash hard boiled eggs together with Avocado and squeeze some lime and a dash of salt into the mixture. Spread onto pita bread or on to crackers. You can even cut them into cubes of hard boiled eggs and serve them alongside whole grain. You can even include a fruit or a vegetable or some treats that your kids like, along with this spread.
If your toddler likes tacos, you can prepare a healthy taco salad. Use black, pinto beans or brown rice to make containers. Dice some vegetables that toddler loves and put in some mozzarella cheese and some salsa. There you have it, a (healthy) taco salad specially for your tot.
If your kids love sushi and you don’t have the expertise and the time, you can make the dish with even simpler ingredients.
Using rolling pin, roll a whole grain sandwich bread. Spread some cream cheese, jelly and hummus, mashed beans and salsa or simply peanut butter or jam and slice and roll them up.
Kids love pancakes! And what a way to prepare something out of it in a more innovative way. All you need to do is, next time you make pancakes at home, create an extra batch and keep it in the refrigerator. When packing lunch for your kids the next day, prepare pancakes out of that extra batch that you kept freezing over the weekend. Spread some jam or honey or cream on either sides of pancakes. Spread some fine slices of fruits such as pineapple or berries that your kids love on those pancakes. Place one pancake atop other, there you have it, a simple but unexpected sandwich.
Cheese can save the day if your toddler is a picky eater. Cut some small pieces of meat that your kids love such as ham, bacon or pepperoni. Spread some shredded cheese or mayo into the mixture. Serve them plain or add whole grain crackers to the dish to make the dish more filling.
