Things to do after you move to a new city
Getting settled and comfy in a new city is a big challenge. From setting up the house to making new friends and getting to know your new city or town, everything takes time. You have to settle down and take care of various necessary utilities such as water and electricity and ask around and compare additional services such as internet and TV packages. Once you have packed your boxes and moved to a new city, you need to do a few things first to make the relocation a smooth transition for you and your family.
Check the boxes
Check if all the boxes, furniture and the appliances that you have moved have are in good shape and that nothing is missing. Make sure all your electronic products and the appliances are working fine.
Set up utilities
Make sure the water and electricity are running fine in the new house. Check if the gas connection is working in case you are using a gas cooking range. Also set up your internet, TV and phone connection. Before going for any service provider, look up for their ratings. And see which service provider has good upload and download speed. Compare TV packages and the individual packages offered by different providers and choose the one that offers best services and features for the money you are spending.
Update address
Update your postal address for all the important communication with contacts like banks, emergency contacts, family members and collectors. Also make sure any mail you get at your old address is forwarded to your new address.
Register your vehicle
Register your vehicle as soon as possible because if you get pulled over you will have to pay a heavy fine. So go to the DMV website and get new tags, registration card and a license plate for your car.
You also need to re-register your vote as per the rules and regulations of the state. So go to eac.go and register yourself for vote. This is important to establish your residency.
Find a doctor
Do a little bit of research and find a primary care physician, dentist and a vet if you have a pet. Getting this done initially will save you time when you need to visit a doctor in emergency.
Find a school
If you have children, then finding a good school is a priority. You need to find the right school for them before moving to the new place and once you move, you need to get them admitted to a school.
Get insurance
Since you moved into a new home, you need to get insurance coverage for your new home immediately. So, get your home insured against the damages from natural calamities.
While doing all the important tasks to start your new life in the new city do not forget to socialize. Get to know your city and make friends with neighbors.
